Cloud computing and central government

Join us for a fabulous evening of debate, dining and discussion in London’s famous Army & Navy Club. Founded in 1837 with no less than the Duke of Wellington himself as the Patron and described by Charles Dickens in his “Dictionary of London”, this really is stepping into a part of history.

In 2013 the UK government unveiled a ‘cloud first’ policy for public sector. Cloud adoption, the government claimed, would boost business, ensure savings and efficiencies while enabling digital transformation. The ability to dis-aggregate large complex and expensive contracts with cheaper, quicker and more competitive public sector was key aim, along with a pay-as-you go model that enables and encourages experimentation with adaptation to scale usage to match need.

As we move into 2017 how does the promise compare with reality? What opportunities and challenges has Cloud created but not yet exploited? Are security concerns still valid and do they remain a barrier for a more comprehensive adoption.

To examine these issues, Government Computing will be hosting this dinner on March 29th in association with IBM. We’ll discuss how Cloud technology has and will be best adopted by Government departments, plus examine the benefits and challenges that Cloud has brought.
