The case for defence: data, security and best practice for law firms

Date: 17th Jan 2019

Venue: Balthazar London 4-6 Russell Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2B 5HZ

Sensitive data is the currency of the legal profession. Whether it is trade secrets, personally identifiable information, financial and medical records, or intellectual property, every law firm holds intelligence likely to make it a target of the cybercriminal.

Partner-led and resource-restrained, law firms are often playing technology catch up, behind the security maturity curve and ripe for account takeovers, insider threats and business email compromise.

During this specially-convened CBR Dining Club, in association with LogRhythm, we will explore the extent and nature of cyberthreats and the best-practice approach to mitigate risk. We’ll discuss the relative threats of phishing, spear phishing, whaling and ‘Friday afternoon fraud’. And we’ll discuss the common denominator: the often unintended consequence of human error.

Turning to security solutions, we’ll examine the role automation plays in improving security operations efficiency to ensure rapid detection and response.

And we’ll unpack the merits of:
- User and entity behaviour analytics (UEBA) for detecting unusual activity
- Security information and event management (SIEM), in bringing organisation-wide security data together in one place
- Automating Incident Response to Phishing attempts
- Compliance reporting

As always, this CBR Dining Club will be an opportunity to hear from expert speakers and share thoughts and experiences with industry peers. For the security conscious in the legal profession, this is one not to be missed.
